2006 produced a milestone – the R.F. Giddings project. After their fire the SE Group were chosen as the supplier of the new mill. This was a very special order as it had to be a “Turnkey” project; to use Tony Giddings’ phrase – “We want to lean on the fence and watch a sawmill be built”………..So that’s what we did!
Obviously this took an enormous amount of teamwork within the SE Group together with fantastic co-operation from the Giddings family and their staff. From our side we needed a “man on site” regularly to be in day-to-day control of the project. For this we welcomed back Hans Koch, Managing Director of SEL from 1986 – 2004. This meant Hans was able to run the project together with the assistance of Charlie Shand of R.F. Giddings from the site itself, utilising the customers existing knowledge of local sub-contractors etc.

The co-operation worked brilliantly and the mill is now up and running and together with the up to date technology, it provides the customer with new opportunities in the type of products they wish to produce. |
