Söderhamn Eriksson Ltd (SEL) was formed in the very early 80’s as Cellwood Eriksson Ltd near Milton Keynes as a daughter company of A.K. Eriksson – the Swedish sawmill machinery manufacturer - to supply UK and Irish sawmills with the most up to date technology from such manufacturers as AKE, Söderhamns Verkstäder, Bruks and Smedbolaget (now Ingvar Persson).

In 1986 the Company was re-located under the stewardship of Hans Koch to it’s present location in Reddish, Stockport. This gave the Company a much more central location to the whole of the UK sawmilling industry with excellent road and air connections. Some years later Söderhamns Verkstäder was purchased by AKE making an already close working relationship complete. Thus in 2000 the Group decided to give themselves one name that was universally recognisable for all the satellite offices - Söderhamn Eriksson.

Since SEL began we have built 23 complete sawmills and of course supplied an enormous amount of either single machines or small lines, such as debarking lines, edging lines, logsorters, chipping lines, dropsorters etc. As a further testament to the build quality of our machines we now have approx 10 sawmills built with second hand machinery running in the UK and Ireland. However it isn’t only sawmills we supply to. Planing mills, paper mills, board mills, re-saw lines (including horizontal ones), bark plants and the most new addition – wood chipping lines for power plants are all part of what we do.
   

February 2005 brought about a significant order for the SE Group – in fact the biggest ever taken in many ways. R.F. Giddings of Bartley in The New Forest had a fire in their AKE sawline that completely destroyed there sawmilling operation. SE was chosen as the supplier of the new plant. However this was not to be a standard installation – it had to be “Turnkey”. We were basically to supply everything for a complete mill except for the high power transformer and the sawmill building. Otherwise we supplied everything – right down to the microwave in the operator’s cabin!

In 2004 Hans Koch retired and Darren Oldham, the then After Sales Manager, was promoted to be his replacement. New personnel were then required and the SEL Team nowadays consists of:
